The UGREEN UG-20816 is a 3.5mm stereo audio splitter cable that converts a single 3.5mm headphone jack into two 3.5mm female outputs. Also known as the AV134, this 20 cm Y-splitter allows two headphones, earbuds, or speakers to share audio from a single source device simultaneously. It uses oxygen-free copper conductors, gold-plated connectors, and braided shielding to maintain stereo sound quality across both outputs.

Oxygen-Free Copper Conductors With Braided Shielding

At its core, the UGREEN UG-20816 uses oxygen-free copper (OFC) conductors. OFC reduces electrical resistance compared to standard copper, which helps preserve signal clarity and minimise audio distortion during transmission. As a result, the stereo signal reaching both female outputs remains clean and balanced.

In addition, the cable features braided shielding around the conductors. This shielding layer acts as a barrier against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) from nearby electronic devices. Consequently, the UG-20816 maintains consistent audio fidelity even when used alongside smartphones, laptops, or other electronics that generate background noise.

The wire diameter measures 3 mm, which provides a balance between cable flexibility and conductor thickness. This diameter allows the cable to remain pliable enough for portable use while still housing adequate shielding and conductor material.

Gold-Plated 3.5mm TRS Connectors

All three connectors on the UGREEN UG-20816 are gold-plated. The male 3.5mm TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) plug connects to the audio source, while the two female 3.5mm TRS ports accept headphones or speakers. Gold plating serves two practical functions: it resists oxidation and corrosion over time, and it reduces contact resistance at the connection point. Together, these properties help maintain signal integrity through repeated plug-in and removal cycles.

The male connector uses a slim, step-wise design. This tapered profile allows the plug to fit into most smartphone and tablet cases without requiring case removal. Furthermore, the connectors feature aluminium shell housing that adds structural rigidity and protects the solder joints from mechanical stress.

Stereo Audio Output on Both Channels

The UG-20816 splits the stereo signal from the source device into two identical stereo outputs. Both connected headphones or speakers receive the full left and right channel audio. However, it is important to note that the UGREEN UG-20816 is a passive splitter. This means the audio signal is divided without amplification. In most cases, the volume level remains consistent across both outputs when used with smartphones, laptops, or dedicated sound cards. Volume may decrease slightly when driving two high-impedance headphones from a low-power source.

Additionally, the cable supports standard headset playback functions such as play, pause, and skip when used with compatible earphones. However, the UG-20816 does not support microphone pass-through. It is designed strictly for stereo audio output.
