The UGREEN UG-30847 is a 2.5-inch external hard drive enclosure that connects internal SATA drives to a computer via USB 3.0. Also known as the US221, this enclosure features a built-in USB 3.0 Type-A cable. The integrated cable eliminates the need for a separate data cord. The UGREEN UG-30847 uses a VL711F0 chipset and supports data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps over USB 3.0. It is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports.

The enclosure shell is made from ABS plastic with a non-slip surface finish in black. It measures 128.5 × 82 × 14 mm (5.06 × 3.23 × 0.55 inches). The UGREEN UG-30847 operates as a plug-and-play device. No driver installation is required. It draws power directly from the host USB port, so no external power adapter is needed.

USB 3.0 Transfer Speed and UASP Support

The UGREEN UG-30847 provides a USB 3.0 interface with a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 5 Gbps. This is approximately 10 times faster than USB 2.0 connections. The internal SATA III connector supports transfer speeds up to 6 Gbps, ensuring the USB interface does not bottleneck SATA III drives under normal operating conditions.

The enclosure supports UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol). When enabled, UASP reduces CPU overhead and command latency during data transfers. According to UGREEN, this protocol accelerates read speeds by up to 70% compared to standard USB 3.0 BOT (Bulk-Only Transport) mode. However, UASP requires that the host device, operating system, and USB controller all support the protocol. On the OS side, macOS 10.8 and newer as well as Windows 8 and newer natively support UASP.

Built-In USB Cable

One distinguishing feature of the UGREEN UG-30847 is its built-in USB 3.0 cable. The cable is permanently attached to the enclosure and measures 50 cm (approximately 20 inches).
