Ugreen UG- 60561 USB 3.0 to SATA Converter
The UGREEN UG-60561 is a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter that connects both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch internal SATA drives to a computer via a USB-A port. Also designated as the CM257, this converter uses the ASMedia ASM225CM bridge chipset. It supports data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps over USB 3.0 and up to 6 Gbps on the SATA III interface. The UGREEN UG-60561 supports UASP, TRIM, and S.M.A.R.T protocols. It also includes short-circuit protection for added data safety.
The adapter housing measures 52.5 × 46 × 13 mm and weighs approximately 100 g. A built-in USB 3.0 cable measuring 50 cm connects the adapter to the host device. The UGREEN UG-60561 is USB bus-powered for 2.5-inch drives. For 3.5-inch drives, an external 12V/2A power adapter is required, connected through a DC 5.5 mm jack on the adapter body. The power adapter is not included in the package.
Transfer Speed and Chipset
The UGREEN UG-60561 is built around the ASMedia ASM225CM chipset. This is a USB 3.2 Gen 1 to SATA 6 Gbps bridge with integrated PHY. The USB 3.0 interface provides a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 5 Gbps. The SATA III connector supports up to 6 Gbps. In practice, throughput is limited by the USB side at 5 Gbps.
UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) support on the UGREEN UG-60561 accelerates read speeds by up to 70% and write speeds by up to 40% compared to standard USB 3.0 BOT (Bulk-Only Transport) mode. Additionally, UASP reduces CPU resource usage by approximately 80% during transfers. However, UASP requires that the host device, operating system, and USB controller all support the protocol. macOS 10.8 and newer as well as Windows 8 and newer natively support UASP.
TRIM command support helps maintain SSD write performance over time. Meanwhile, S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) allows users to monitor drive health status through compatible software. The UGREEN UG-60561 also features built-in short-circuit protection. This safeguard protects both the adapter and the connected drive from electrical damage during operation.
