The UGREEN UG-70610 is a USB-C to SATA III adapter cable that connects 2.5-inch internal drives directly to a USB-C equipped computer. Also known as the CM321, this converter uses a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 male connector on one end and a SATA (7+15 pin) female connector on the other. The cable measures 50 cm in length. The UGREEN UG-70610 is built around the ASMedia ASM235CM bridge chipset. It supports data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps on the USB side and up to 6 Gbps on the SATA III side.

This SATA-to-USB bridge controller handles the protocol conversion between the internal SATA III interface and the external USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 connection. The USB-C port supports a theoretical bandwidth of 5 Gbps. The SATA III interface supports up to 6 Gbps. In practice, the USB interface sets the throughput ceiling at 5 Gbps.

UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) support on the UGREEN UG-70610 reduces CPU usage and command latency during data operations. According to UGREEN, UASP-enabled transfers deliver up to 70% faster read speeds and 40% faster write speeds compared to standard USB 3.0 BOT (Bulk-Only Transport) mode. Additionally, TRIM command support is included. TRIM helps maintain SSD write performance over time by notifying the drive about unused data blocks.

The ASM235CM chipset on the UGREEN UG-70610 also supports S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology). This function allows users to check the health status of connected HDDs and SSDs through compatible software on the host computer. Both the drive and the host system must support S.M.A.R.T for this feature to operate.

Cable Design and Hot-Swap Support

The UGREEN UG-70610 uses a single 50 cm cable with an ABS plastic housing at the SATA connector end. The USB-C male plug connects to the host computer. The SATA (7+15 pin) female connector attaches directly to the drive. This compact design eliminates the need for a full enclosure when quick, temporary drive access is the goal.

The adapter supports hot-swapping. Users can connect and disconnect drives without shutting down the host laptop or desktop. An LED indicator on the adapter housing shows the working status of the connected drive. The LED confirms when the drive is active, idle, or in sleep mode.
