Description

Suntree Battery Fuse NH00 100A 1000VDC – Fuselink, Fusebase and Cover (Single Pole)

The Suntree NH00 is a 100A 1000V DC blade-type fuse assembly specifically designed to protect battery banks, solar inverters, and DC distribution systems from overcurrent and short-circuit faults. It is supplied as a complete single-pole kit comprising three matched components: the fuse link, the fuse base, and a protective insulating cover — everything required for a finished, safe DC fuse installation in one package.

The NH00 form factor is an internationally standardised blade-type fuse size governed by IEC 60269-2 and DIN 43620. It is the smallest of the NH blade fuse family, with knife-blade contacts that insert into a dedicated fuse base for positive mechanical retention and low-resistance electrical contact. At 100A and 1000V DC, the Suntree NH00 occupies a current range that bridges the gap between the smaller 10×38mm cylindrical fuses used for solar string protection and the larger NH1-format fuses used for high-current battery banks and inverter main feeds.

NH00 Blade Format and What It Means in Practice

The NH (Niederspannungs-Hochleistungs) blade fuse format is the global standard for medium-to-high current industrial fusing. Unlike cylindrical 10×38mm fuses, the NH00 blade fuse uses flat knife-blade contacts at each end of a rectangular ceramic body. These blade contacts seat into spring-loaded clips inside the fuse base, providing a large contact surface area that keeps contact resistance — and therefore heat at the termination — low under continuous high-current operation.

The NH00 size accommodates current ratings from approximately 50A through to 160A in the 1000V DC product range. This makes the NH00 the appropriate choice for:

  • Battery bank fusing at 48V, 96V, or higher DC bus voltages where continuous current draw from an inverter or charge controller exceeds 30A
  • Inverter input protection on the DC side, where the 100A rating covers inverters up to approximately 4.8kW at 48V DC
  • DC distribution board protection for sub-array or battery string feeds in energy storage systems

The Suntree NH00 fuse base is a panel-mount or DIN-rail adaptable base, allowing installation directly onto a backplate or adapted to a 35mm DIN rail with an appropriate mounting clip. The fuse base includes the terminal connection points for the positive (or negative) DC conductor, and the fuse link inserts across the top between the two spring-clip contacts.

Fuse Link Construction and Arc Interruption

The NH00 fuse link uses a silver or silver-alloy blade element inside a high-strength ceramic body packed with chemically processed high-purity quartz sand. This construction is the same principle used in the smaller SRD-30 and SGR cylindrical fuses, scaled up to the physical dimensions and energy levels of the NH00 blade format.

DC arc interruption at 100A and 1000V DC demands a robust internal construction. When the fuse element melts under a fault, the quartz sand medium rapidly absorbs and disperses the resulting arc energy across the full length of the fuse body. This prevents arc re-strike — a risk that is far more significant in DC circuits than in AC circuits, because DC lacks the natural current zero-crossing that inherently quenches AC arcs. The Suntree NH00’s ceramic body and quartz sand filling together provide a breaking capacity of 50,000A (50kA) at 1000V DC — sufficient to safely interrupt the high prospective fault currents available from large battery banks or from multiple parallel PV strings connected at a DC busbar.

The NH00 operates on the gPV operating class classification under IEC 60269-6, which means it provides full-range protection: it clears both sustained overloads and short-circuit currents within its rated range, rather than only short-circuit currents (partial-range protection, denoted by the “a” prefix).

The Complete Kit: Fuselink, Fusebase, and Cover

The three components supplied with the Suntree NH00 100A assembly have distinct and complementary functions:

Fuselink — the sacrificial overcurrent element. It is the component that operates under fault conditions and must be replaced after a fault event. The fuselink contains the silver blade element, ceramic body, and quartz sand medium described above. It is rated for one-time operation and is not resettable.

Fusebase — the permanent wiring termination point. The base is fixed to the panel or DIN rail during installation and the DC cables are terminated at its screw terminals. The fusebase retains the fuselink via spring-clip blade contacts and includes the mechanical housing that aligns the blade contacts correctly for both electrical continuity and safe removal. The base remains in place after a fault; only the fuselink is replaced.

Protective cover — the insulating shroud that fits over the fusebase and fuselink assembly after installation. The cover prevents accidental contact with live parts during normal operation and during inspection. In solar and battery systems operating at 1000V DC, inadvertent contact with an uncovered fuse base presents a serious electrical hazard; the cover removes this risk for installers and maintenance personnel working inside distribution boards.

Together, these three components form a self-contained, touch-safe DC fuse station requiring no additional components beyond the DC cables terminated at the base.

Sizing and Application Guidance

The 100A rating of the Suntree NH00 is appropriate for DC circuits where continuous current does not exceed 100A and where the cables and connected equipment are rated to at least that current level. In solar and battery system applications:

  • At 48V DC, 100A corresponds to approximately 4.8kW of continuous power — covering most residential hybrid inverters rated at 3kW to 5kW
  • At 96V DC, 100A corresponds to approximately 9.6kW — suitable for medium commercial off-grid systems and larger battery banks
  • For battery string fusing in parallel battery configurations, one NH00 per positive conductor is required, sized to the maximum continuous discharge current of the string plus a 25% margin per IEC guidance

The NH00 series is available from Suntree in the following ratings within the NH00 format: 100A, 125A, and 160A at 1000V DC. The 100A variant is the entry rating in this series. For systems with higher continuous DC current requirements, the 125A or 160A variants, or the larger NH1 series (150A–250A), should be considered.
