Overview of what a power backup system entails:

  1. An inverter charger.

An inverter/charger converts DC power to AC power and then passes it along to the connected equipment. It is connected to an AC power source to continuously charge the attached batteries when AC utility power is available.

  1. A battery

A backup battery provides power to a system when the primary source of power is unavailable rechargeable backup batteries are kept charged by the prime power supply.

  1. Change over switch.

A changeover switch transfers a house’s electricity input from commercial power lines to a backup system in the case of an outage. The switches connect to the system, the main power supply, and the house. With the flip of the switch, all power automatically changes over.

  1. Battery fuse

The fuse is there to protect against short circuits and for overload protection. If at any time the current flowing through the fuse exceeds the rated value of the fuse, it will automatically cut off the power supply. Without a fuse a short circuit can cause a fire or even make batteries explode since the huge currents involved release vast amounts of stored energy.

  1. Automatic Voltage Switcher.

The Automatic Voltage Switcher (commonly known as AVS) is the most complete power protection device combining over-voltage, under-voltage, power-back surges and spikes/surge protection. Additionally, there is a delay when power returns to normal. This will ensure that the appliance is not switched on-off repeatedly during fluctuations nor it is subjected to a massive surge normally experienced when power returns after power cuts.
