Description

Ugreen UG- 25854 HD USB Video Capture Card

The UGREEN UG-25854 is a compact HDMI-to-USB video capture card that converts HDMI video and audio signals into a USB-compatible stream for recording or live broadcasting. Also known as the CM716, this capture device accepts HDMI input at resolutions up to 4K @ 30Hz and outputs captured footage at Full HD 1080p @ 60fps through a built-in USB-A or USB-C cable. It requires no driver installation and draws power directly from the USB connection, making it a straightforward plug-and-play solution for streaming, gameplay recording, and video conferencing.

4K HDMI Input With 1080p @ 60fps Capture Output

The UGREEN UG-25854 accepts HDMI signals at a maximum resolution of 4K @ 30Hz from source devices such as gaming consoles, DSLR cameras, camcorders, and laptops. It then downscales and captures the video at 1080p @ 60fps for smooth, detailed output. Additionally, the card supports 2K @ 30Hz capture as an intermediate resolution option.

Video encoding uses the MJPEG format, which helps maintain image quality while keeping file sizes manageable. The UG-25854 also supports a wide colour range with 24-bit, 30-bit, and 36-bit colour depth. Moreover, it handles multiple pixel formats including RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2, and YCbCr 4:2:0. This range of colour and pixel support ensures accurate colour reproduction across different source devices and recording scenarios.

Dual USB-A and USB-C Output Interface

Unlike many capture cards that only offer a single output connector, the UGREEN UG-25854 features both USB-A and USB-C cables built directly into the unit. As a result, it connects to a wider range of devices without requiring separate adapters. You can plug the USB-C cable into a modern laptop, tablet, or smartphone, or use the USB-A cable for older desktops and notebooks.

The capture output operates over USB 2.0 with a theoretical transfer speed of 480 Mbps. While this bandwidth is sufficient for 1080p @ 60fps MJPEG capture, it is worth noting that the UG-25854 does not use USB 3.0. Consequently, uncompressed or RAW capture at higher resolutions is not supported through this device.

Audio Capture and Quality

The UGREEN UG-25854 captures audio alongside video through the HDMI input. It records at a sampling rate of 24-bit / 48 KHz, which is standard for broadcast and streaming applications. Furthermore, the audio input achieves a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 90 dB or higher and total harmonic distortion (THD) below -80 dB. These specifications indicate clean audio capture with minimal background noise or signal degradation.

UVC Protocol and Software Compatibility

The UG-25854 uses the USB Video Class (UVC) standard protocol. This means it is recognized as a standard video input device across operating systems without proprietary drivers. As a result, it works natively with a wide range of capture and streaming software, including:

  • OBS Studio
  • XSplit
  • PotPlayer
  • QuickTime Player
  • VLC Media Player
  • Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and similar conferencing platforms

The card also supports broadcasting to major streaming platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, Facebook Live, TikTok, and LinkedIn Live. This broad software and platform compatibility makes the UG-25854 a versatile tool that integrates into most existing workflows.
